President ECOSF meets the new Ambassador of Kyrgyz Republic and seeks his support for promotion of STI Initiatives of ECOSF in ECO Region

President ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro called upon the new Ambassador of Kyrgyz Republic to Pakistan H.E. Mr. Erik BEISHEMBIEV at Kyrgyz Embassy in Islamabad on 20 April 2017. The Ambassador warmly welcomed President ECOSF for the meeting.

Prof. Manzoor H. Soomro welcomed H.E. Mr. Erik BEISHEMBIEV for taking the responsibilities as Ambassador to Pakistan. Earlier, the mission was headed by the Deputy Head of Mission level, hence, President ECOSF hoped that the Kyrgyz mission will play more active role in the leadership of Mr. Erik and new avenues of cooperation will be opened between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.

President ECOSF briefed the Ambassador about aims and objectives of the Foundation and apprised him about ongoing programmes and some glimpses of scientific activities done by the Foundation in the region. He further said that ECOSF has been inviting experts/scientists/engineers from Kyrgyzstan in various scientific forums, seminars, meetings, conferences and capacity building workshops, fully funded by the Foundation and its partners. The participation of scientists from Kyrgyzstanis encouraging. He further mentioned that the travel grant support has also been provided to the Kyrgyz scientific community for the participation in the scientific forums/workshops in other ECO countries and international forums.

Prof. Soomro informed the Ambassador that ECOSF has been endeavoring for initiating/collaborating scientific activities in Kyrgyzstan but some impediments are faced. The one major impediment is the non ratification of ECOSF Charter and its Additional Protocol by Kyrgyzstan. He requested Ambassador for early completion of the process of the ratification of the Charter and its Additional Protocol by Kyrgyzstan so that ECOSF can contribute scientifically for the promotion STI in Kyrgyzstan with more vigour.

During the meeting, the Ambassador was also informed that ECOSF has received two proposals for cooperation from Kyrgyzstan, one from the Technical University and second from Ministry of Education and Science. The proposals are under process of evaluation and will be responded to accordingly in due course of time.

H.E. Mr. Erik BEISHEMBIEV expressed his happiness for meeting with the President and said that although he has assumed charge of the Ambassador recently but before the meeting he was briefed about the STI activities of ECOSF which made him impressed that in short span of time, the Foundation has established itself as an active organization in the region. He further said that this meeting has made him clearer that the Foundation can play a role of bridge between scientific organizations/institutionsthrough different ventures with the support of the member countries. In this context, the ratification of the Charter and its Additional Protocol of the Foundation will provide strong footings to the Foundation; he assured to personally follow the matter with relevant authorities in Bishkek.

The Ambassador thanked the President for providing support to the scientific community and institutions of his country. He hoped that the support and collaboration of the Foundation will boost in completion of the process of ratification of ECOSF Charter and its Additional Protocol.
