Mega Summer Science Exhibition held at Sukkur IBA, July 31, 2017

Sukkur IBA in Collaboration with Community Development Program (CDP), Planning and Development Board, Government of Sindh organized a three-week ‘Summer Science Camp’. The purpose of organizing this camp was to impart Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) to the students to explore the hidden potential among the students of government schools to become future scientists and technologists. A three-week Summer Science Camp concluded on July 31, 2017 at the Sukkur IBA with a Mega Exhibition, where students displayed over 50 innovative projects developed during the course of this summer camp. Highly qualified faculty of Community Colleges of Sukkur IBA engaged with students to experiment various scientific concepts through projects and experimentation. The Summer Science Camp offered an access to Science Laboratories of five Community Colleges of Sukkur IBA to participating students of Class-IX & X who were mostly from the Government Schools of entire Sindh.

 

The President ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro was the Chief Guest of the event. The representatives of CDP Mr. Amjad Laghari and Ms. Sara Murtaza were also present.  Prof. Soomro appreciated the efforts of the Sukkur IBA and CDP, Government of Sindh for organizing this Science Summer Camp and the exhibition. During his remarks, he emphasized over the importance of critical thinking and inquiry based learning by youth as well as by the communities. “Moreover, education based upon the “inquiry” holds much importance in training the minds of individuals for understanding the world, he added. It should be inculcated among children at primary & secondary school levels to nurture critical and innovative thinking in the society especially young children, no matter what career they may choose”, he said. During the exhibition, Prof. Soomro visited various stalls where students had displayed their innovative scientific projects. He highly encouraged the students and appreciated for their curiosity and hard work they had put in developing these projects. The exhibition was well attended by students, parents, science enthusiasts and people from civil society where they visited the stalls and keenly observed their projects.
