About the Webinar:
The Moving Sofa Problem, first posed by Leo Moser in 1966, challenges us to find the largest area that can be maneuvered around a right-angled hallway turn. This problem has intrigued mathematicians for decades, leading to remarkable discoveries in geometry, optimization, and computational mathematics.
In this talk, Dr. Abdullah Naeem Malik, a Fulbright Scholar and an expert in data-driven modeling, deep learning, and graph data science, will take us on a journey through the mathematical foundations of this problem. He will discuss Gerver’s best-known solution, computational approaches, and broader implications in robotics, motion planning, and materials science.
This session is designed to be accessible to all mathematics enthusiasts, from students to researchers, and will offer insights into both the theoretical beauty and practical applications of this captivating problem.
