ECOSF and IPKI Institute Host Webinar on Popularizing Mathematics and Science

Islamabad, January 15, 2025 – The ECO Science Foundation in collaboration with the IPKI Institute, organized an engaging and enlightening webinar titled “Popularizing Mathematics and Science” on January 15. The event featured a talk by Prof. Dr. M. Zafar Iqbal, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Physics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
Prof. Iqbal delivered a lecture entitled “Grigori Perelman: The Man Who Refused a Million Dollar Award,” shedding light on the extraordinary contributions of the Russian mathematician Grigori Perelman. Perelman, known for his groundbreaking work in geometry and topology, was awarded the prestigious Fields Medal in 2006 for his revolutionary insights into the Ricci flow. However, he famously declined the award, stating, “I’m not interested in money or fame; I don’t want to be on display like an animal in a zoo.”
During the talk, Prof. Iqbal highlighted the monumental impact of Perelman’s work on the field of mathematics, particularly in topology, and discussed the broader implications of his discoveries. The session aimed to inspire a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its role in advancing scientific knowledge.
