ECOSF and Iran Academy of Sciences Explore Enhanced Scientific Cooperation

Tehran June 2, 2026 – Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi, President ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), visited the Iran Academy of Sciences (IAS) in Tehran and met with its senior officials to discuss collaboration on the proposed ECO Sciences Forum. Prof. Mohammad Reza Shams Ardakani, Secretary of IAS, welcomed the President ECOSF and reaffirmed IAS’s readiness to deepen cooperation. Prof. Ali Akbar Mousavi Movahedi, Head of the Science Committee of IAS, highlighted the longstanding scientific collaboration between Iran and Pakistan and noted that, as IAS had initially proposed the establishment of the ECO Sciences Forum, Iran would be well positioned to host its Secretariat.
Prof. Tayebi highlighted ECOSF’s efforts to strengthen linkages among Iranian scientific institutions and their counterparts in Pakistan and other ECO Member Countries through research, technology and innovation cooperation, information exchange, and capacity-building programmes. He also outlined ECOSF initiatives in STEM education, science camps, and technology park promotion. The participants reviewed the concept note for the ECO Sciences Forum and proposed its finalization for consideration at the 6th ECOSF Board of Trustees Meeting, following input from the academies of sciences of Pakistan and Türkiye. IAS, in collaboration with the academies of sciences of Pakistan and Türkiye, will also explore convening the first virtual session of the Forum in the coming months.
