Introduction
Economic Cooperation Organization Science Foundation (ECOSF)
The ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) is the specialized agency of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) dedicated to advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) across its ten Member States—Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Established in Islamabad in 2011, ECOSF serves as a regional platform to strengthen scientific cooperation, build STI capacity, and promote innovation-led socio-economic development in the ECO region.
Vision Statement
To promote and support scientific alliance and innovation among the ten ECO Member States with a vision to contribute to the sustainable economic development and well-being of the ECO region.
Our Work
ECOSF’s core mandate is to provide technical advice and strengthen the scientific and technical capacities of the ten ECO Member Countries in all areas related to Science, Technology, and Innovation. This mandate includes:
- Developing a deep understanding of the specific challenges, priorities, and development needs of each Member State;
- Providing in-depth, expert technical advice to support national STI policies, standards, and programs;
- Facilitating regional cooperation, collaborative research, and knowledge exchange to help Member Countries address shared challenges.
What ECOSF Does?
Guided by the ECO Charter and its own Charter and Additional Protocol, ECOSF works to:
- Enhance human resource and institutional STI capacities;
- Promote collaborative research and joint scientific programs;
- Support development of science education, engineering standards, technology parks, and innovation ecosystems;
- Advance climate resilience, electric mobility, digital transformation, and frontier technologies;
- Encourage youth innovation, entrepreneurship, and scientific literacy;
- Facilitate regional networks, scientific diplomacy, and policy dialogue.
Through strategic partnerships with leading global organizations—including UNESCO, UN agencies, engineering accreditation bodies, and premier universities—ECOSF delivers high-impact programs across the ECO region to accelerate sustainable development, economic integration, and regional prosperity.
