About the Webinar: This talk explores the enduring legacy of Abū ʿAlī ibn Sīnā (980–1037), whose seminal work Al-Qānūn fi-ṭ–ṭibb (The Canon of Medicine) shaped medical education for centuries. Given its extensive scope, scholars since the 11th century have produced abridged versions to make the Canon more accessible. The webinar will delve into the evolution of these abridgements across the Islamic world—from early contributions by Ibn Ilāqī and Ibn al-Nafīs to Central Asian scholars like Chaghmaynī and Khojandī—demonstrating the Canon’s sustained impact into the modern era.
