President ECO Science Foundation addressed the event as Guest of Honor
The 1st Invention to Innovation Summit was held at the University of Balochistan (UoB) Quetta on 4-5 May 2016 organized. The Summit was organized by UoB in collaboration with Government of Balochistan, Institute for Research Promotion (IRP), ECO Science Foundation, Pakistan Science Foundation, PASTIC, Pakistan Council of Science and Technology and numerous other organizations.
It was aimed to promote commercialization of research results by bringing various R&D institutions, individual innovators and researchers as well as the private companies engaged in technology development and production. The Governor of Balochistan and Chancellor of the University H. E. Mr. Muhammad Khan Achakzai was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural on 4th May. Welcome address was by Dr. Waheed Noor, Director ORIC, UoB. Others present on the occasion and speaking were; Vice Chancellor of the University, the Federal Secretary for S&T Mr. Fazal Abbas Maken, Chairmen of PSF, PCST & PCSIR and the CEO of IRP Mr. Abid Shirwani.
President ECO Science Foundation Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro, one of the founders of the Invention-to-Innovation Summits in Pakistan (Lahore- 2011), also graced the event as guest of honor and spoke in the inaugural highlighting the history of the initiation of the initiative and subsequent developments. He also emphasized on promotion of critical thinking and innovation at school and pre-school level of children. He also stressed upon the need for organizational innovation for creation of innovative ecosystem.
The Governor of Balochistan appreciated the speech and efforts of Dr. Manzoor Soomro and presented him a memento of the summit. The Governor also invited President ECOSF to visit him separately for discussion on development of S&T sector in Balochistan.
Dr. Soomro also opened the AFAQ Innovation Star Competition patronized by Institute of Research Promotion (IRP) at UoB on 4th May 2016. In his address he thanked the VC Punjab University Dr. Mujahid Kamran for supporting the proposal by Dr. Soomro and Abid Shirwani as Founders in 2011 at Lahore. In his talk he introduced ECO Science Foundation, its aims and objectives. He shared with other colleagues the activities of ECOSF and the strategic partnership of ECOSF with International organizations and institutions, such as; LAMAP, ISTIC, IAP-SEP, UNESCO, EVK2CNR, IPBES, ASTN and KISTEP Korea etc. He highlighted opportunities for introducing IBSE projects into regional and global initiatives such as China’s multi-billion-dollar ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative as well. He discussed the vital importance of SDGs and how the youth potential be made useful to achieve the SDGs within its time frame also he discussed the importance of integration of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and howit is vital to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Later at night a dinner was hosted by the Chief of Staff of Corps Commander of Southern Command HQs Quetta. President ECOSF during the dinner talked about S&T Linkages for SDGs and again stressed the importance of Science, technology and innovation for accomplishment of SDGs.
