President ECOSF Participated in the 29th anniversary celebration of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS)

The 29th anniversary celebration of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South was held on January 16, 2024 at President Secretariat (Aiwan-e-Sadr) - Islamabad. The Chief Guest of the Ceremony was Honourable President of Pakistan H.E. Dr. Arif Alvi. The ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of COMSATS Member States and other countries and the leadership of the scientific organizations and academic institutions. Senior Civil Servants, and representatives of national and international organizations also participated in the event. On behalf of ECOSF, its President Prof. Dr. Seyed Komail Tayebi and Mr. Ghulam Abbas Rahar, Manager (Administration) attended the event.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Alvi, warmly congratulated the COMSATS and Heads of States and Governments of COMSATS Member Countries, as well as all those affiliated with the organization for completing 29 years of services in the field of science and technology. He emphasized the significance of COMSATS and assured the Government of Pakistan's active support. President Dr. Alvi also highlighted the importance of technological advancements and innovations across various fields, as well as the accessibility of knowledge, emphasized the imperative to share the latest scientific breakthroughs, experiences, and achievements. He stressed that this is essential for the greater benefit of all humanity.
Earlier, Ambassador (R) Dr. Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of the COMSATS welcomed and thanked all the distinguished guests for their participation in celebrating 29th Anniversary of COMSATS. He also said that in today's changing world, science and technology are crucial for progress and finding solutions to global challenges. He emphasized that consistent funding for research and development not only creates new technologies but also encourages ongoing innovation.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Lin Zhaohui, Director of the International Center for Climate and Environment Sciences (ICCES) in China, emphasized the importance of cherishing this milestone in COMSATS' journey. He commended the organization's ongoing dedication to promoting South-South and triangular cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. Prof. Lin reiterated ICCES' strong commitment to COMSATS. He highlighted climate change as a pressing threat to the planet and praised COMSATS for taking a leading role in promoting sustainable solutions and environmental stewardship.
