A meeting was held to review and assess the initiative of establishing the China-Pakistan Technical and Vocational Education Training Program under One Belt-One Road initiative of China. The objective of development of this program is to train the local labor force to ensure the sustainability of mega infrastructure projects in Pakistan under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and transfer necessary technical skills to local manpower so that they become proficient to maintain these projects. President ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro along with Mr. Khalil Raza - Scientific Officer ECOSF and Mr. Raza Shah of UNESCO held a meeting with Member S&T of Planning Commission Dr. Athar Osama at the Planning Commission on August 16, 2017. This project is being developed under the initiative of Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World (AETDEW) based in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with International Cooperation Center of National Development Reforms Commission of P.R. China. It is important to mention that Prof. Soomro and Dr. Osama are the Founding Fellows and Council Members of AETDEW. The proposed project is aimed at establishing the Infrastructure Maintenance Capacity Building Center in Pakistan. This center would be first of its kind in the region to held build the capacity in infrastructure maintenance not only for Pakistan but also for other countries along the OBOR.
