ECOSF and ISC held a Virtual Meeting for Advancing Science and Technology in the Islamic World

The ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) and Islamic World Science & Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC) held a virtual meeting with the on January 14, 2024. The objective of the meeting was to foster collaborative scientific, educational, and research relations between ISC and the ECO Science Foundation. The meeting was attended by Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi, President of ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Prof. Seyed Ahmad Fazelzadeh, President of ISC, Prof. Azhar Ali Shah, ISC EC Member in West Asia, and Dr. Mohammad Reza Falahati, Director Office of Advancement of International Affairs, ISC.
At the outset, an introduction of the ISC was presented by Dr. Falahati. Then, Prof. Fazelzadeh ISC president extended a warm welcome to the participants and highlighted ISC's activities and scientific achievements. These include the evaluation, indexing and ranking of scientific publications and universities along with science and technology platforms such as the Dana portal in order to introduce elites and future makers in the Islamic World. Prof. Fazelzadeh underscored that monitoring the science and technology of Islamic countries is one of the crucial missions of this institute. Referring to a 10-year report (2013-2022) from Web of Science and Scopus, he noted that Pakistan secured the seventh position.
Prof. Fazelzadeh also elaborated that out of 57 Islamic countries' universities, a total of 460 universities from 30 Islamic countries were eligible for inclusion in the ISC ranking of Islamic countries in 2022, with Pakistan securing the third position with 41 universities. Prof. Fazelzadeh further highlighted that according to ISC WUR BY SUBJECT in 2022, Pakistan ranked third among Islamic countries.
Expressing appreciation for the ISC's role, President ECOSF Prof. Tayebi provided a brief introduction to the ECO Science Foundation, an intergovernmental organization mandated to promote Science, Technology, and Innovation in the ECO Member Countries. Prof. Tayebi emphasized the need to put the expansion of scientific interactions on the agenda, leveraging joint scientific capacities to benefit ECO Member Countries and other regional countries.
Prof. Azhar Ali Shah underscored the importance of the two international organizations ISC and ECOSF, expressing hope that the collaboration would continue in the future. He also suggested developing joint programs between the two organizations to achieve their shared goals.
In the end, both sides expressed their interest in signing a scientific memorandum between ISC and ECOSF and meeting concluded on a positive note.
