Islamabad Science Camp – 2023

Hands-on Islamabad Science Camp 2.0 was organized by ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Pakistan Science Club (PSC) and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) from 10-14 July 2023 at AIOU Main Campus. The Students and young leaders were invited to attend the Camp. More than 120 participants attended the Camp. Four sessions were conducted every day and every session was comprised of 30 participants each. Every day, there was new project assigned to the participants.

 

A closing ceremony was also held at the final day i.e. Friday 14, 2023. The Chief Guest of the Closing Ceremony was President ECOSF Prof. Dr. Seyed Komail Tayebi. Other guests of honours were Prof. Dr. Irshad Ahmed Arshad, Dean Faculty of Science AIOU, Prof. Dr. Tanzila Nabeel, Dean Faculty of Education AIOU and Mr. Abdul Rauf, CEO of PSC. The parents and relatives of the participants also attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the Organizers, Dr. Tanzila welcomed all the distinguished participants, parents, young leaders/students for attending the Camp with dedication. Mr. Abdul Rauf talked about the Camp and its activities in detail. He also highlighted outcome of the event. Dr. Irshad represented Vice Chancellor of AIOU and said that it is the honour for the University collaborate with ECOSF and PSC for hosting the amazing event in main campus of AIOU. He also welcomed more such events in the University in partnership of ECOSF.

President ECOSF Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi in his speech highlighted ECOSF and its mandate. He further said that young students are the leaders of future so investing on them is to secure a progressive future. He congratulated all the participants for their remarkable work during five day of the camp. He also appreciated the parents who nurture their children in the field of science. He added that science provides opportunity to explore, evaluate and develop new things to address the social issues through scientific methods, thus, investing in science leads to the development of a society and ultimately the country. Without science, technology and innovation, no country can progress. He added that students in different levels of education and training are considered as human resources who build the future of their lives. The Islamabad Science Camp is a type of learning- by-doing in the context of science and technology which provides students with initial scientific and technological skills in order to be able to solve the future problems of the society and environment. He then reiterated the commitment of ECOSF to promote STI leading to economic development in the ECO region. He also thanked AIOU to host more such events in the future in collaboration with ECOSF.

Earlier, on the first day, a project titled Voltaman with the objective of exploring electrical circuits and control was assigned to the participants to make it. For this purpose, all the required material was given to them. The assistance from the trainers was available throughout the class. The participants completed the task using different techniques and designs. Following days, the projects such as automata, robo car and other scientific assignments were given to the participants which were completed smartly. A robo war was also arranged using the robots made by the participants during the event. New ideas for solving the problems were applied by the participants. On the final day i.e., Friday, 14, 2023, the parents of all the young leaders/students were invited to attend the Camp and work with their children. A task of making a machine was given to every family to complete it within the stipulated time. It was a healthy activity full of learning and fun.

At the end of the Camp, prize gifts were given to the winners of different sessions and the certificates were awarded to every participant by President ECOSF and Dean of Science AIOU.
